Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsSearch "roof repair near me" in Aliso Viejo, then in Shafter: the screen may look alike, but the crowd bidding for those clicks is not. The county around Aliso Viejo sits among the busiest in this guide for ad-heavy trades; the one around Shafter sits among the quietest. Meanwhile 144 of the 322 cities have a median household income above $100,000, and 74 have mostly renting households.
GetPhound runs Google, Bing and Meta ads for small businesses for one flat monthly fee. Each California city here has an advertiser's profile: how crowded the bidding is, who lives there and what that means for a campaign. Look up your city below.
Trade by trade
For twelve trades that tend to buy local ads, we compared employer locations per resident in each California county with the median U.S. county. Above 1.0x means more businesses chasing the same customers than usual.
| Trade | Average density vs. typical U.S. county | California counties above typical | Median change since 2017 |

Each row is the median city in a county-based region of our own design, so one very large or very small place does not tilt the result.

What a lead is worth
A budget starts with what a new customer is worth. Where incomes are high, that number tends to be larger. The top median incomes in the set are in Los Altos ($250,000 or more), Saratoga ($237,730), Cupertino ($223,667), San Carlos ($219,413), Lafayette ($219,250), Palo Alto ($214,118). At the other end, Desert Hot Springs ($45,863), Oildale ($45,976), Oroville ($46,362), Wasco ($48,109), where clear prices and a tight service area usually carry more weight than polish.
Median home values stretch from $173,600 to $2,000,000 or more, which matters most for trades tied to houses: roofing, plumbing, HVAC and remodeling. We never promise a lead price, because it depends on trade, offer and competition. We help you work out what a lead is worth first.
Timing and targeting
Daytime at home. Cities with many remote workers see daytime activity: Marina del Rey (41.6%), Lafayette (37.6%), Malibu (35.7%), Los Altos (33%).
After the commute. Where long commutes are common, calls and forms bunch up later in the day: Los Banos (53.2%), Adelanto (49.2%), Oakley (48.1%), Antioch (47.4%).
Spanish at home. 68 cities have at least 40% Spanish-speaking residents. Ads and landing pages in Spanish only help when the business can answer in Spanish. Highest: Calexico (93.4%), Maywood (91.1%), Bell Gardens (90.1%), Huntington Park (89.6%).
The index
Each city carries a score from 0 to 100 describing how crowded its ad auction is likely to be. Higher scores mean more ad-heavy businesses per resident around the city, plus richer customers, and they usually call for tighter targeting and stronger landing pages.

Inside the service
Search
Search ads written and bid for the cities you serve, with negative keywords to keep your budget away from searches that will not buy.
Microsoft Advertising
A second source of search traffic, reviewed next to Google so you can compare calls and forms from each.
Facebook and Instagram
Paid social to reach people before they search, handy for offers, seasonal pushes and slower weeks.
Part of every plan
Pages built for ad clicks, plus tracking for calls, forms and sales so reports connect spend to results.
New channels keep appearing, among them sponsored placements inside ChatGPT. We try them with a small budget and a clear measure before recommending any.

Fees
Fees are monthly and flat, scaled by platform count, and you may cancel whenever you like. Your ad budget goes straight to the platform, never through us. If you plan to spend more than $10K a month, talk with us before you commit.
Questions
Because every city is its own auction. Competition, income and daily rhythms vary, and a city page lets us show the figures and say what a campaign would do about them.
Begin with your own economics: the value of a customer, how often a lead becomes one and how many customers you need. That yields the most you can pay per lead. The calculator on each city page does the arithmetic.
Some campaigns bring calls the day they go live and others need a few weeks to settle, more so in crowded trades. We do not promise lead numbers.
No. Fees are monthly and you can stop at any time.
Yes, on a separate plan. The California SEO guide covers organic search city by city.
