Care work dominates among Antioch's 115,016 residents: 9,640 of them (17.6%) work in health care and social assistance, well ahead of retail at 6,159 (11.2%), construction at 4,732 (8.6%) and professional and technical services at 3,927 (7.2%). Antioch Unified School District follows at 2,190 and Sutter Delta Medical Center at 972, then the city government at 316, Costco at 292, Walmart at 225, Target at 220 and the Antioch Auto Center at 213. A single year proves little, but it suggests that hospital shifts and school calendars set much of the daily movement.
County competition is uneven. Contra Costa County has 5,262 businesses spread across twelve ad-heavy trades, and small firms account for 84.2% of them. Physicians' offices number 594 (1.28 times the typical rate, down 5.3%), insurance agencies 418 (about the typical rate, down 5.2%), law offices 524 (1.58 times) and accounting firms 235 (1.68 times, up 5.9%). The tallies belong to the county, so read them as a measure of rivals on shared phrases and not as Antioch's own count. How Antioch responds
The commute decides the hour. Younger households
Where 23.8% of residents are under 18, ads for tutoring, childcare, sports and weekend repairs can run on weekday evenings and Saturdays, when parents are free to search and call.
